🏛️ Government Approves Major Restructuring of Erdenes Mongol, Establishes “Chinggis Khaan Sovereign Wealth Fund Group” 🇲🇳

🏛️ The Government of Mongolia has approved a comprehensive restructuring plan for Erdenes Mongol Group, transforming it into a sovereign wealth fund-focused institution responsible for wealth fund management, strategic project oversight, and the enhancement of long-term national savings.

  • 📌 As part of the reform, 14 subsidiaries will be dissolved, eliminating 260 duplicate positions and reducing administrative expenses by 10% and rental costs by 30%. The restructuring is expected to generate annual savings of approximately MNT 67.3 billion.

  • ✅ Under the new structure, Erdenes Mongol Group will be renamed the “Chinggis Khaan Sovereign Wealth Fund Group”, with a mandate to centralize sovereign wealth fund revenues, improve returns on national savings funds, and enhance the efficiency and value creation of state-owned assets.

  • 🏗️ The organization will also provide unified services, standards, and systems for several strategic national projects, including the Mongolia Oil Refinery Project, MonAtom, Erdenes Gas, Erdenes Oyu Tolgoi, Gashuunsukhait Highway, and the Erdenes Industrial Technology Park.

🤝 The Ministry of Finance will oversee preparations for the sovereign wealth fund framework and coordinate key decisions, while certain projects may be transferred to internationally experienced investment management firms to improve governance and operational efficiency.
