🇲🇳 Mongolia’s Inflation Reaches 11.2%, Driven Primarily by Rising Food Prices 📈
According to the National Statistics Office of Mongolia, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 11.2% year-on-year and 1.2% month-on-month in May 2026. Inflation accelerated from 8.3% a year earlier, indicating mounting price pressures across the economy.
🍖 Food Prices Remain the Primary Driver of Inflation
Food and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for 57.3% of total inflation, with prices in the category rising 23.4% year-on-year. The sharp increase in meat prices was the largest contributor to the overall rise in consumer prices.
🥩 Beef Prices Surge More Than 55%
As of May 2026:
Meat and meat products prices increased by 46.7%
Beef prices rose by 54.6%
Mutton and goat meat prices increased by 53.4%
In Ulaanbaatar, the average retail price of boneless beef reached MNT 36,257 per kilogram, representing a 55.1% increase compared with the same period last year—one of the steepest increases recorded in recent years.
🌍 Domestic Factors Continue to Dominate Inflationary Pressures
Of the total 11.2% inflation rate:
3.9 percentage points (34.5%) were attributed to rising prices of domestically produced goods excluding meat and fuel;
1.8 percentage points (16.5%) resulted from higher prices of imported goods.
These figures suggest that current inflation is being driven not only by external factors but also by domestic supply conditions and developments in the food market.
📍 Selenge Records the Highest Inflation Among Provinces
As of May 2026, the provinces with the highest inflation rates were:
Selenge: 19.3%
Govi-Altai: 14.1%
Orkhon: 13.7%
The lowest inflation rate was recorded in:
Sukhbaatar: 7.5%
💡 Ard Insight: The sharp increase in food prices-particularly meat prices-remains the key driver of inflation in Mongolia. With food inflation reaching 23.4%, rising living costs are placing increasing pressure on household purchasing power while also raising the likelihood of tighter monetary policy measures. Going forward, meat supply conditions, seasonal factors, and movements in imported goods prices are expected to be the primary determinants of Mongolia’s inflation trajectory.

The GTM bets that shouldn't have worked, and did
One grew revenue 50x after half his team quit over the strategy. One brought in 50K signups in a single day with no paid budget. One generated 100M+ views from a stunt that took 50 hours to conceive. One asked every prospect to demo the product themselves instead of demoing it for them.
None of them followed the safe playbook. They treated GTM like an experiment, moved before they had proof, and made bets most founders would never get approved.
