🇲🇳 Mongolia officially opened the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) in Ulaanbaatar on August 17, marking the start of a major international gathering focused on desertification, land degradation and drought. Mongolia’s national flag was raised at the conference venue in a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Uchral N, members of the Government and United Nations representatives.

The initiative is designed to bring practical experience in land restoration, sustainable rangeland management and drought resilience, as well as the perspectives of pastoral communities, into the global policy dialogue.

🏛️ Mongolia first expressed its interest in hosting COP17 to the United Nations in 2021, with the decision to hold the conference in Mongolia subsequently made in 2022.
